This last week was a quiet one when it comes to online advertising. Facebook couldn’t stay away though and had to make it to our #WeeklySnacks by announcing that it will reduce the amount of fake news on its platform. Stay up to date with what’s new in online advertising and social media with some new items that caught our attention.
How can a weather App be so popular, with more than 20 million users? Easy! WeatherBug did it now it’s just been bought by XAD a platform that provides real-time, location-based marketing. “Weather is a very exciting category because consumers download the app, keep it running in the background [to keep track] of storms and lightning and so on and so forth. It’s one of the top three activities Americans do every week.” So, did you check the weather for tomorrow?
We loved the beginning of this article: “On Facebook nobody knows if you’re a liar. But they might someday soon.” Fake news are the ‘persona-non-grata’ of social media and that’s the reason why Mark Zuckerberg anounced this news on his Facebook a few days ago. “The bottom line is: we take misinformation seriously. Our goal is to connect people with the stories they find most meaningful, and we know people want accurate information. We’ve been working on this problem for a long time and we take this responsibility seriously. We’ve made significant progress, but there is more work to be done.” Ready…set… report as false!
Is this how Google tries to tell people that Facebook is sort of a rented place? Cause it looks like it, and might not be far from the truth. “Google is acknowledging that these are challenging times for publishers and that it needs to do more to help secure their financial future. It’s being forceful in this regard.”
Remember when we believed that texting is sooo much easier than calling? Well, the tables have turned cause apparently, video calling is the future! This is why WhatsApp felt like it had to introduce Video Calling into the app and become a player in the communication game next to FaceTime, Facebook Messenger Video Calling feature, Skype or Viber.
